Planning a Block Paved Drive?
Can block paving be laid straight over my old tarmac drive?
Generally not. Block paving needs a compacted stone sub-base and a sand laying course to sit on properly. Old tarmac is usually broken out so the new drive is built on a sound base at the right level, rather than raising the surface towards your damp-proof course.
What block pattern suits a small frontage?
Herringbone is the strongest choice anywhere cars turn and brake. On a small frontage a single contrasting border, rather than several bands, helps the space feel larger, and lighter blocks brighten a shady drive.
How do I choose block colours for my house?
Look at the brick, roof tiles and window frames. Warm brindles and reds sit well with red brick, while greys and charcoals suit rendered or modern homes. We bring samples so you can see them in daylight against your own house.
Can my patio be laid in the same blocks as the driveway?
